Sidmouth Infants School requirement for
a two classroom extension presented Skinner
with a series of challenges, due not only
to the extremely tight timescales involved
but also due to the fact that the school
was occupied during much of the work. Facilities
provided include the two classrooms themselves,
disabled access and toilet facilities, external
timber walkways and external works. The
contract sum was £475,000.
We
now have two new classrooms, a decking
area for outside play, storage cupboards,
hanging space for coats and PE kits, children's
toilets, a disabled toilet and a caretaker's
room. The changes to the building are
having a positive effect on teaching and
learning and bring our school community
together. The Skinner site manager, Alan
Edwards, was approachable and helpful
throughout the works and the building
site was not intrusive in any way to the
functioning of the school.
