Next generation joins building firm

A WESTCOUNTRY building firm has appointed a new managing director who has previously worked in senior roles with household names in the industry.

Civil engineer Chris Strong joins Sidmouth-based Skinner Construction, having held management positions with both Costain and Bovis in the past.

He takes over from Colin Mayor, who has owned and managed Skinner for over 40 years and will move into a new role as chairman of the board of directors.

Mr Mayor said: "I am extremely pleased that Chris has agreed to join us in this key position. He comes to us with a great career in construction already under his belt, and I have no doubt he can take the firm from strength to strength. I look forward to working with him."

"My previous partner, Colin Farnsworth, and I have worked extremely hard over the past 40 years to build Skinner Construction into a significant business with a good, solid reputation in the area.

" I now feel that it is the right time to let the next generation make their mark on the business."
